Opening times Blast Furnace 5 & Viewing Platform

Blast Furnace 5 and its viewing platform are open daily without time limitations. In the case of bad weather, ice and snow, Blast Furnace 5 has to be closed for safety reasons.

Blast Furnace 5

Furnaces like Blast Furnace 5 were used to produce pig iron by smelting iron ore with lots of other aggregates at temperatures of around 2000°C. A furnace like this could operate continuously for ten years before the internal brickwork had to be relined.

Guided Tours

All guided tours can be booked on-site in the Visitors’ Centre or online at Tour de Ruhr.

Light installation

Visitors have been able to experience the highlight of the Landscape Park since December 1996 – but only in the evenings. That’s when the British artist Jonathan Park's light installation immerses the old ironworks in a fascinating sea of light and colour.

Visitors’s Centre

Landscape Park Duisburg Nord’s Visitors’ Centre is situated in the Main Switching House. The building is to be found a few metres behind the park entrance. Here, you can also obtain information, souvenirs and can book a guided tour.
